The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees approved the establishment of the endowed professorship in experimental cancer therapeutics and appointed Selvarangan Ponnazhagan, Ph.D., professor of molecular and cellular pathology, its first holder during its meeting April 13, 2012. Ponnazhagan joined the UAB faculty in 1999.
