The UAB Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, in conjunction with the Reproductive Medicine Network, and The National Institutes of Health, is looking for volunteers for a two-year research study, Pregnancy in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PPCOS II), comparing the effectiveness of two medicines, Clomiphene Citrate (Clomid) or Letrozole (Femara), used to help increase ovulation for those seeking to become pregnant. Participants must be ages 18-40; have irregular periods — less than eight periods per year or periods more than 45 days apart; possibly have excess body or facial hair; or have been diagnosed previously with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Participation in the PPCOS II study lasts 20 weeks, five menses cycles or pregnancy, whichever comes first. Treatment costs may be covered by the trial for eligible participants.
