The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures will present a screening of the award-winning documentary “Walking the Camino: Six Ways to Santiago” with a talk by director Lydia B. Smith at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4. The free, public event will take place at the Reynolds-Kirschbaum Performance Hall of the UAB’s Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South.
“Walking the Camino” is an up-close look at pilgrims from all walks of life as they attempt to cross country on foot along the path of the Camino de Santiago. Their goal is to reach the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela, where the bones of the apostle St. James are said to be buried. Millions of people have traveled this trail for more than 1,000 years, including several UAB students and John K. Moore, Ph.D., associate professor of Foreign Languages.
Smith has directed several important films, including “They’re Just Kids,” a documentary on how children with disabilities can positively affect our lives. She was also senior producer on CNN’s “Soldiers of Peace: A Children’s Crusade,” among others.
