Theatre UAB presents annual Freshman Showcase on Oct. 4

Burgeoning singers, actors, musicians, and production and technical students will take to the stage at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, for the free showcase.

freshman showcaseStudents and the community are invited to cheer on new theater students at the fifth annual Freshman Showcase, presented by the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Theatre.

More than 20 burgeoning singers, actors, musicians, and production and technical students will take to the stage at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, in the Odess Theatre in UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. The informal showcase is free and open to the public. The department will host a casual meet-and-greet after the show.

In what has become a tradition for the past four years, the UAB Department of Theatre begins its season by shining the spotlight on the incoming freshman class in a showcase performance that features acting, singing, dancing, music, designs and technical support, says Assistant Professor Jack Cannon, MFA. Participating freshman theater majors are Alicia Batterson, Elana Brooks, Seth Burgess, Maddie Burrell, Merideth Busby, Diamond Carson, Caylin Cobb, Noah Dearing, Noah Duffy, Blaine Elward, Deante’ Griggs, Emily Harris, Amanda Hudson, John Kennedy, Cara Matzke, Brandon McLemore, Meredith Morse, Kayli Porter, Kathryn Schmidt and Olivia Skillern.
