First Indian-American Miss America to speak at UAB Feb. 4

Notinee Indian Dance Troupe and UAB students will give welcome performances and Nina Davuluri will discuss her journey to being the first Indian-American Miss America.

miss americaNina Davuluri, Miss America 2014, will speak at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Feb. 4.

Davuluri will discuss her journey to being the first Indian-American Miss America. The event is set for 6 p.m. in UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The Notinee Indian Dance Troupe and UAB students will give welcome performances. The event is free and open to the public.

During her reign, Davuluri’s platform was “Celebrating Diversity Through Cultural Competency.” She continues to travel and speak publicly on the subject.

UAB’s Undergraduate Student Government Association and Indian Cultural Association will present the lecture.
