UAB alumna a finalist for U.S. teacher of the year

Anne Marie Corgill, 2015 Alabama Teacher of the Year, has been named one of four finalists for National Teacher of the Year.

ann marie corgillAnne Marie Corgill, a fourth-grade teacher at Cherokee Bend Elementary School in Mountain Brook, and 2015 Alabama Teacher of the Year, has been named one of four finalists for National Teacher of the Year.

She earned her master’s degree in early childhood education from the University of Alabama at BirminghamSchool of Education.

The National Teacher of the Year program began in 1952 and is designed to recognize effective work in the classroom, amplify teachers’ voices and empower them to participate in national and local policy discussions. A selection committee comprising several national education organizations determines the winner, who will be announced in April and recognized at a White House ceremony in the spring.

“Ms. Corgill exemplifies what it means to be a great teacher, and we are very proud of her,” said Dean Deborah L. Voltz, Ed.D. “She reflects the great educator preparation provided by the UAB School of Education and the wonderful work that is happening in across the state in our school systems.”
