Birmingham elementary and middle school children find fun in science at UAB event

UAB student affiliates of the American Chemical Society will host Mad Scientist Day Junior for elementary and middle school children.

mad scientist day 2017 tsArea children will learn just how fun science can be during the fifth annual Mad Scientist Day Junior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Saturday, May 5. The event, hosted by the Birmingham chapter of Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society, is free and open to elementary and middle school students.

Kids can partake in more than 30 interactive demonstrations and experiments — from developing their own slime concoctions to conducting lab experiments — and learning basic principles of science while having fun.

The event will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the UAB Chemistry Building, 901 14th St. South.

Children must be accompanied by an adult, and both adults and children must wear closed-toe shoes and full-length pants. Protective goggles will be provided. Registration and additional details can be found online.
