Enjoy free performances throughout winter and spring 2016 by students, faculty and guest artists presented by UAB’s Department of Music.

“Chamber Music @ AEIVA” will begin at 5 p.m. and offer gallery viewing and a reception followed by a 30-minute concert at 5:30 p.m. featuring student and faculty performers.
More than 125 voices of current and past UAB Gospel Choir members from throughout the state and as far away as Tennessee, Georgia, California, Illinois and Ohio will perform.
The UAB Piano Series brings the world’s finest pianists to Birmingham. Krieger will perform a program of works by Beethoven, Lazarof, Chopin and Brahms.
Kasman, 20, of Vestavia Hills, was selected from applications from across the country for her performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
George Stewart’s Sept. 24 lunchtime lecture will focus on the music and history of the black gospel quartet and its influence on other genres.
On offer are free recitals by students and faculty, guest artist performances and master classes, and a new art and music event, plus Gospel Choir and Christmas at the Alys concerts.
UAB junior Aleksandra Kasman outplayed 33 talented pianists to win first place at the International Keyboard Institute and Festival.
Learn the art of improvisational comedy, comic book character creation, how to write a movie or play and more, through arts education classes at Artplay. Registration is now open, and classes begin Sept. 3.
Halli Williamson of Oneonta, a business and music student, is working with children in need and their families as an intern with Sozo Children this summer.

A double music and theater major, Nole Jones will compete against 13 semifinalists selected in the NATS National Student Auditions in the College Music Theatre Men division.

Kasman’s other recent wins include the  National Federation of Music Clubs Student/Collegiate Auditions, LaGrange Symphony Young Artist Concerto Competition, and AMTA State College Concerto and Solo Performance auditions.

Panion’s arrangements of the works “People Get Ready,” “This May Be the Last Time,” “Amazing Grace” and “If I Had a Hammer” will be performed in concert June 6.
