Geurs named chair of periodontology at School of Dentistry

Geurs will lead UAB's periodontology deparment.

Nicolaas Geurs, D.D.S., M.S., has been named chair of the Department of Periodontology at the UAB School of Dentistry. He is a professor of dentistry and director of the advanced education program in periodontology.

Geurs completed his training in periodontology and his master’s in clinical dentistry at UAB. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Periodontology and a Fellow of the American College of Dentistry. He is actively involved in teaching in periodontology and implantology. His research interests include periodontitis and systemic health, regeneration, bone grafting and dental implantology.

“Nico has proven he has the leadership skills, vision, energy and experience to lead and further expand the department,” says School of Dentistry Dean Michael Reddy, D.M.D., D.M.Sc. “Nico is extremely active in national and international dental communities and has developed the relationships to further advance and improve our students’ education and the school’s reputation for clinical and scholarly excellence.”
