Whitley receives inaugural NIH award

Whitley is the first recipient of a new award from the NIH.

whitley_sRichard Whitley, M.D., Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics, the Loeb Eminent Scholar Chair of Pediatrics and director of the UAB Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, is the inaugural recipient of the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center’s Distinguished Clinical Research Scholar and Educator in Residence award. The award honors an established clinical investigator with outstanding scientific credentials who has demonstrated a career devoted to teaching and mentoring.

Whitley will deliver a lecture as part of the Contemporary Clinical Medicine – Great Teachers series, a component of the NIH Clinical Center Grand Rounds, Feb. 13, 2013, on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Md.

Whitley also is the associate director for drug discovery and development with the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center and a co-director of the CCTS Drug Discovery Component.
