Scott Plutchak, AHIP, director of the Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), has been named a Fellow of the Medical Library Association (MLA).
“Scott’s contributions are helping to lay the foundation for MLA’s second century of excellence and achievement in the health information profession,” said Jane Blumenthal, AHIP, president of the Medical Library Association. “This is one of the association’s highest honors.”
Plutchak will be recognized at the 2013 Annual Meeting in Boston on May 6. He received his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh and was a National Library of Medicine library associate from 1983 to 1984. He was associate director and then director of the Health Sciences Center Library at St. Louis University before coming to UAB in 1995.
MLA is a nonprofit, educational organization with more than 4,000 health sciences information professional members and partners worldwide. MLA provides lifelong educational opportunities, supports a knowledgebase of health information research and works with a global network of partners to promote the importance of quality information for improved health to the health care community and the public.
