kenneth_saag_storyThe UAB Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics program has been funded for another five years by the Agency for Healthcare Review and Quality. UAB is one of six CERTS sites in the nation. Its mission is to conduct research and provide education that will advance the optimal use of drugs, medical devices and biological products; increase awareness of the benefits and risks of therapeutics; and improve quality while cutting the costs of care.

UAB’s CERTS is home to the musculoskeletal disorders component of the national program.  It is housed within the Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, under the direction of Ken Saag, M.D., Jane Knight Lowe Professor of Medicine.

The CERTs program, overseen by AHRQ in partnership with the FDA, was originally authorized by Congress in 1997.
