Record baby boom at UAB Hospital

UAB’s Women and Infants Center delivered 4,400 babies in 2016.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital delivered a record number of babies in 2016 with more than 4,400 births. The UAB Women and Infants Center has seen a 7 percent increase in births from December 2015 to December 2016 with 146 sets of twins born this year.

“Our labor and delivery team provides world-class care to our moms and infants,” said William Andrews, M.D., chairman of the UAB Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “All care, from routine to the most complex, is rendered in a family-oriented and respectful manner. The UAB Women and Infants Center provides an environment designed to maximize both patient and family comfort and experience.”
