Beena Thannickal and Kevin Storr have joined the UAB Media Relations team within the Office of Public Relations and Marketing.
Thannickal is the media relations specialist for the University of Alabama at Birmingham Comprehensive Cancer Center and will work jointly with UAB Media Relations on cancer-related news, from patient stories to cancer research.
Most recently, Thannickal was a senior public relations representative for the Institute for Research on Women and Gender at the University of Michigan. Prior to that she managed media relations for various schools and departments at Boston University and also worked for Cone Communications in Boston and the DeVries agency in New York. She has managed multi-faceted national and international PR campaigns for a variety of clients. Thannickal graduated from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
Kevin Storr has joined UAB Media Relations as a media specialist primarily responsible for the School of Engineering and the School of Business, as well as areas within the College of Arts and Sciences.
Storr recently managed media relations and online content for the Massachusetts Salvation Army. He also was manager of communications for a non-profit organization, i-Safe Inc., and was the news director for Adelphia Communications, both in in Carlsbad, Calif. Storr started his career as a TV sports reporter in Meridian, Miss., and worked at stations in Birmingham, Bowling Green, Ky., and Fort Myers, Fl. He has a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi.
