Screen star Smiley sold out the Alys Stephens Center for this past year’s show. One of the funniest comedians touring today, he performs his hilarious trademark characters to crowds at comedy clubs and sold-out arenas alike. He is the host of “The Rickey Smiley Morning Show,” heard on radio stations across the nation and locally on WENN 101.9. After his side-splitting show this past year at the ASC, Smiley is back with a cast of zany characters, clever observations and a treasure trove of funny friends. He’ll perform a night of down-home Southern humor in his hometown.

Smiley will appear live — with special, surprise guests — at 8 p.m. Oct. 28, 2011, in UAB’s Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. The show is part of the Alys Stephens Center’s Homegrown Weekend. Tickets are $63.50, $54.50, $39.50; student tickets are $20. Call 205-975-2787 or visit www.AlysStephens.org.

Smiley’s original characters, sure to make appearances during his show, include “Bernice Jenkins,” “Lil’ Daryl,” “Rusty Dale,” “Beauford” and Bernice Jenkins’ grandson “Rufus,” a stereotypical modern-day “gangsta,” according to his website, www.RickeySmiley.com. He is accompanied by a band, playing several instruments and singing. Smiley is a “clean” comic, creating a blend of comedy and irreverent commentary for his shows. Every morning since his radio program began in 2007, Smiley has brought to life his many characters and bits, including his prank phone calls, “Paternity Test Tuesday,” “Wake Up Wednesday,” “Gary’s Tea,” “News You Can’t Use” or “The Joke of the Day.” The “Rickey Smiley Morning Show” is a blend of laughter, serious discussion of social issues, political awareness and community outreach.
