Green and Gold goes pink for UAB Women’s Basketball

The Women's Basketball team will raise awareness for breast cancer research on Feb. 19 against Marshall.

The Bartow Arena once again turns pink as the UAB Women’s Basketball team will increase awareness for the fight against breast cancer. At 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, UAB will tip off against Marshall at Bartow Arena where the UAB team will host a special breast cancer awareness event, Play 4Kay.

logo-revisedPlay for 4Kay, formerly known as WBCA Pink Zone, is a national initiative that allows coaches to raise awareness and funds for cancer research on the court, across campuses, in variety of communities. The late Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University women’s basketball coach, served as the catalyst for Play 4Kay after her third recurrence of breast cancer in 2006. Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away in 2009.

Donations will be accepted at the game and will support the Coach Gene Bartow Fund for Cancer Research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 975-UAB1 or visit www.uabsports.com.
