UAB Drumline Fest offers new skills for high-school musicians

UAB Music will host a one day, non-competitive drumline clinic for marching percussionists with special guest clinician Jeff Queen.

The UAB Department of Music will present its third annual UAB Drumline Festival Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, with special guest Jeff Queen.

queen5The festival is a one day, non-competitive clinic for high-school musicians. UAB’s marching percussion faculty and instructors with guest clinician Queen will offer constructive tips and instruction on skills and development for the 2012 marching band season. Queen is an international snare-drum champion, original cast member of “BLAST!,” a worldwide clinician, author and teacher.

The day includes morning drumming sessions and afternoon clinics with Queen, Assistant Director of Bands Gene Fambrough, D.M.A., and the UAB Drumline. Participants may come as a full ensemble, battery only, sections only or as individuals. Participants must provide their own equipment.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. in the UAB Hulsey Center for the Arts, 950 13th St. South.

Queen’s clinic will take place at 1 p.m. in the UAB Mary Culp Hulsey Recital Hall. The cost is $25 for high-school students for the full day.
