As chair of the department of Urology, Assimos’s clinical practice is focused on kidney stone disease including stone removal, metabolic stone evaluation and preventive therapy. He conducts research on why kidney stones form and has received NIH funding for these investigations.
Assimos has led the American Urological Association Guidelines Committee on the surgical management of patients with kidney stones. These guidelines provide practicing urologists with care directives for this patient cohort. He can speak regarding care of patients with such stones as well as kidney stone research.
