Pedal steel guitarist Randolph’s prowess on guitar earned him a spot on Rolling Stone magazine’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” list.
Nolen’s song “Mend the Heart of Dixieland” was selected to win, while Clinton Babers II and his song “Here in Alabama” were chosen as second-place finalist and best live performance.
The gift will be used to create arts opportunities, including classes, tickets to performances and more, specifically for military veterans and their families.

UAB’s ArtPlay will join Project1VOICE and companies around the world in readings of the play on June 15 to preserve the legacy and tradition of American theater, especially of African-American playwrights.
ASC donors Mac Fairley and Jim Stroud have reserved a block of tickets to the June 7 show for veterans from the Birmingham VA Medical Center.
