The Association for Information Systems recently selected University of Alabama at Birmingham professors Philip Musa, Ph.D., and Paul Di Gangi, Ph.D., as AIS Distinguished Members-Cum Laude. Musa was honored in the association’s June 2022 membership cohort. Di Gangi was honored in December 2022.
The UAB Collat School of Business professors are two of only 207 individuals worldwide with this designation.
Established in 1994, AIS is the leading global professional association for scholars of information systems. The AIS Distinguished Member Program recognizes members who have contributed a significant impact on the association. To receive the AIS Distinguished Member-Cum Laude designation, one must be a continuous AIS member for at least 10 years, play a leadership role in AIS or AIS-related activities, and have been published in at least four publications in AIS or AIS-affiliated journals.
“As a first-generation first grade graduate, I was surprised and truly humbled when I learned of the honor,” Musa said.
Musa has taught systems analysis and operations management courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels since joining UAB in 2000.
Musa serves on the editorial and advisory boards of several top academic publications, including Journal of Global Information Management, Electronic Journal of Information Systems in Developing Countries, Information Technology for Development, and Journal of Public Health Management and Practice, the last one on which he co-edited a special supplemental issue analyzing structural racism and public health. He is also an active member of AIS’ Healthcare and Global Development special interest groups.
Di Gangi teaches a variety of information security and cybersecurity courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. He received the UAB President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2017 and the MS MIS Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence in 2018.
“It is an honor to be recognized by AIS for my contributions in research and service to our field,” Di Gangi said. “I am also proud to share this achievement with Dr. Musa and look forward to the many contributions we will continue to make to our discipline as UAB professors.”
Di Gangi currently serves as a senior editor for MIS Quarterly Executive and as an associate editor for the European Journal of Information Systems. His research has been published in the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Communications of the Association for Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Information & Organization, International Journal of Information Management, Internet Research, and MIS Quarterly Executive, among others.
