yakov kasman 1University of Alabama at Birmingham Professor of Piano Yakov Kasman, DMA, will perform as part of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra’s “Concertmaster and Friends” series.

The event is set for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14, at Samford University’s Brock Hall.

Kasman will perform the Tchaikovsky Trio in A minor, scored for piano, violin and cello, along with some other Tchaikovsky pieces. His partners for the concert will be ASO Concertmaster Daniel Szasz and ASO principal cellist Warren Samples.

The Tchaikovsky Trio (sub-titled “In Memory of a Great Artist”) is one of the most famous chamber compositions of the 19th century, Kasman says. It is also one of the most difficult, especially for the pianist, and can be compared in its size and difficulty to Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1.
