Kirklin named to American Heart Association GSA Board of Directors

Kirklin has been involved with the American Heart Association in various capacities for more than 20 years.

james kirklin streamJames Kirklin, M.D., professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Division of Cardiovascular Disease, has been named president-elect of the American Heart Association’s Greater Southeast Affiliate (GSA) board of directors for 2018-19.

In addition to his role as a professor in the division, he also serves as director of the Kirklin Institute for Research in Surgical Outcomes. He has been involved with the American Heart Association in various capacities for more than 20 years.

“I am honored to continue to serve as a GSA board member and look forward to helping the American Heart Association lead the fight to save lives from cardiovascular diseases and stroke,” Kirklin said.

The GSA serves Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Puerto Rico. Board members will assist the organization in achieving its 2020 impact goal to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent.
