Samantha Elliott Briggs, Ph.D., program director of the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness of Undergraduate Program, was appointed to the National GEAR UP Advisory Commission by the vice presidents of the National Council for Community and Education Partnerships. The advocacy group provides professional development for all GEAR UP grantees.
The commission builds the capacity of communities to ensure underserved students have the opportunity, skills and knowledge to successfully pursue the education and training that will enable them to achieve their career and life goals. They are working toward a future in which all students are empowered and equipped with the education and training needed to succeed in diverse and global society.
