Volunteers needed for lecture series

By Staff

For the past 23 years, UAB has sponsored a monthly lecture series at Donaldson Correctional Facility, a maximum security men's prison with many of the men serving life without parole. Donaldson has no work program and virtually no classes above the GED level, prohibiting the men from intellectual stimulation. Indeed, the uniform response of UAB faculty over the years has been amazement at what a bright, inquisitive and well-informed audience they find at the prison.

UAB volunteers interested in participating in next year's lecture series at Donaldson are needed. Any subject that falls within your expertise as a UAB faculty or staff member and that could be adapted for a general audience would be well-suited to a prison talk. The lectures are held at the prison from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays once or twice a month.
