UAB Trauma Symposium to examine tornado response

Lessons in disaster preparedness and response learned in the wake of the April 27, 2011, tornadoes will be the focus of the 14th annual UAB Trauma Symposium to be held Sept. 30, 2011, in the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel Medical Forum. Presenters will include UAB trauma surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, psychiatrists and neurosurgeons, EMS officials, the county medical examiner and meteorologist James Spann.

The event is designed for nurses, ancillary health-care providers and pre-hospital care providers. Cost is $70 and includes nine contact hours. Registration deadline is Sept. 16. Students may attend for $40 with no contact hours.

The symposium is sponsored by the section of Trauma, Burns and Surgical Critical Care within the Department of Surgery at UAB and approved by the Alabama State Nurses Association.
