The Young Supporters Board of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center presents an opportunity to celebrate Cinco de Mayo for a cause. The Fiesta Ball 2013 will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at B&A Warehouse, 1531 First Ave. South.

Fiesta_Ball_13_sProceeds from the Fiesta Ball are used to fund a competitive grant award for a young cancer researcher at UAB to jumpstart his or her research, with the goal of producing results to compete for larger federal grants.

“In today’s economic climate, this is more important than ever,” said Edward Partridge, M.D., director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center. “The funding crunch is particularly difficult for young scientists who are just starting their careers and competing against well-established researchers. If we can’t fund them, we run the threat of losing these talented individuals who may be the ones to make breakthrough discoveries that save lives of people with cancer.”

The Mexican-themed event will offer live music, Mexican food, beer and wine, as well as a silent auction that will fund the Young Supporters Board’s efforts to provide activities and amenities for cancer patients and their loved ones throughout the year.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $30 at www.uab.edu/fiestaball or for $35 at the door.  Valet parking will be available.
