Ramsay High School will kick off the second year of Birmingham 101, a series presented by the University of Alabama at Birmingham focusing on the history of Birmingham high schools and their ties to UAB.
Organized by UAB Student Affairs Student Involvement and Leadership, the program highlights one high school each semester.
The Ramsay High School Birmingham 101 event is set for 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, in the Hill Student Center Alumni Theater. Guests will include Anthony C. Hood, Ph.D., associate professor in the Collat School of Business, and Tondra Loder-Jackson Ph.D., associate professor of educational foundations in the School of Education, along with other distinguished alumni and current students.
The focus of this semester’s program will be a screening of the Ramsay mini-documentary produced by the Leadership and Service Council and Student Media, with a feedback discussion immediately following the screening.
The mini-documentary will highlight community members and alumni who will provide their insight on the development of the featured school and community over time, says David Dada, coordinator of leadership and service in the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership.
“The overarching goal from a Student Affairs perspective is to give students more insight on the areas in which we provide service opportunities in order to provide a deeper sense of meaning to the experience,” Dada said.
Previously featured schools for the Birmingham 101 series included West End High, Woodlawn High, Parker High and Ensley High. The featured school for next semester is Jackson-Olin High.
