The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Gospel Choir won “Song of the Year” at the seventh annual Alabama People’s Choice Awards ceremony held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. The award was presented for the choir’s inspirational remix of an R&B classic, “Don’t Ask My Neighbors,” made famous by The Emotions, a world-renowned group.
The UAB Gospel Choir performed “Don’t Ask My Neighbors” at the choir’s 17th anniversary concert last November, which was recorded live for the upcoming “Nu-Soul City” CD release slated for April. The choir also was nominated in the Music Video/Short Format Subject of the Year category for “Gospel Anthology II: The Church & Civil Rights Movement,” a live concert recorded for DVD.
The Alabama People’s Choice Awards honors Alabama natives from the past and present and showcases top gospel artists.
