UAB students to stand 27 hours in recognition of slaves around world

The IJM at UAB Justice Week kicks off Monday, April 15, 2013.

Justice_Week_logoUniversity of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) students will stand for 27 consecutive hours to recognize the 27 million slaves being held worldwide. Stand for Freedom, part of Justice Week hosted by the UAB chapter of the International Justice Mission (IJM), will begin at the Hill University Center concourse at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013, and end at 5 p.m. Friday, Apr. 19.

Individuals or groups are required to stand for a minimum of one hour. There will be events throughout the 27 hours including a karaoke contest, midnight Zumba and sunrise yoga. Information and registration is available on their website.

The IJM at UAB Justice Week kicks off Monday, April 15, 2013, and includes a showing of the documentary Sex+Money: A National Search for Human Worth. The documentary follows a group of photojournalists around the country as they explore “how the sexual exploitation of children has become the nation’s fastest growing form of organized crime, and what can be done to stop it,” according to their website.
