UAB announces new diversity program

Staff will conceptualize, design, implement and assess programs to address multicultural needs.

diversity-icon-2013The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Student Life has launched Student Multicultural and Diversity Programs to celebrate the institution’s core value of diversity, increase the discussion of human differences throughout the student community and further develop the intercultural competencies of students.

Community Week, Free Food for Thought, Multicultural Council, International Mentors, and Safe Zone will fit under the Student Multicultural and Diversity Programs’ umbrella. Additionally, the new unit will partner with the Office of Equity and Diversity’s academic and retention initiatives, the Blazer Male Excellence Network and the Multicultural Scholars Program. Staff will conceptualize, design, implement and assess programs to address multicultural needs, and programs will provide a meaningful understanding of identity and will collaborate with other involvement and advocacy activities throughout campus.”
