Eight set to compete in Miss UAB Scholarship Pageant on Oct. 15 at the ASC

The Miss UAB pageant is an official preliminary to the Miss Alabama and Miss America pageants; a total of $4,600 in scholarships is offered to the winners.

miss uab webChassidy SumlerEight young women will vie for the title and $4,600 in scholarships as the University of Alabama at Birmingham presents the 2015 Miss UAB Scholarship Pageant at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15.

The Miss UAB pageant is an official preliminary to the Miss Alabama and Miss America pageants. The Miss UAB pageant will be held in UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, 1200 10th Ave. South.

Entertainment for the evening will include performances from the UAB Golden Girls, UAB student Lenora Brown, Miss Leeds Area and Miss UAB 2014 Chassidy Sumler, who will crown the new winner. The emcee will be Miss Leeds Area 2015 Elisabeth Chramer, who was also Miss UAB 2012.

Scholarships ranging from $100-$2,000 will be awarded to the overall winner; the first, second, third and fourth alternates; the talent winner; and the lifestyle/fitness winner. Miss UAB and the talent and lifestyle/fitness winners will receive award plaques. Miss UAB and all alternates will receive flowers from LaCole Florist, all provided by the Student Activities Council.

The eight contestants for this year’s Miss UAB pageant are: freshman in early childhood education Sarah Robertson of Springville; marketing junior Leigh Anna Shavers of Clanton; graduate student in public administration Courtney Roberts of Gardendale; liberal arts freshman Harley Chapin of Columbiana; physical therapy junior Ashley Cooper of Meridianville; psychology junior Melanie Mae Roberts of Gardendale; marketing junior Mattie Boyd of Homewood; and second-year medical student Breann Tisano of Brentwood, Tennessee.
