UAB Trumpet Ensemble to perform at International Trumpet Guild

The 10-student ensemble is invited to perform at the four-day conference, which features the world’s greatest trumpet and brass artists.

The International Trumpet Guild has invited the University of Alabama at Birmingham Trumpet Ensemble to perform at its conference May 26-30.

Assistant Professor James Zingara of the UAB College of Arts and SciencesDepartment of Music directs the UAB Trumpet Ensemble. The ensemble features students Katie Boyd of Hueytown, Melanie Edwards and Mollie Edwards of Springville, Mason McFarland of Irondale, Eric Nelson of Alabaster, Alex Panion of Hoover, Cesar Rivera of Birmingham, Drew Romanowski of Helena, Nick Tyler of Warrior and Bill Walker of Montgomery.

The conference will take place in Columbus, Ohio. Each year, ITG highlights top collegiate trumpet ensemble programs as prelude concerts for world-class headliner performances. The performance will feature a world premiere composition by Valentin Bogdan titled “Retrospection.”

The annual ITG conference features the world’s greatest trumpet and brass artists and is indeed the trumpet event of the year, says Zingara. The conferences have been held at major universities throughout the world. Sessions are devoted to numerous topics including jazz, symphony orchestra, solo recital, chamber music, pedagogy, history, repertoire, performance practices, acoustics, equipment modifications, physiology, psychology, premieres of new works and all aspects of the trumpet.

The International Trumpet Guild is a worldwide organization of trumpeters, formed to promote communication among trumpet players around the world and to improve the artistic level of performance, teaching and literature associated with the trumpet. ITG’s more than 7,000 members represent 64 countries and include professional and amateur performers, teachers, students, manufacturers, publishers and others interested in belonging to an organization dedicated to the trumpet profession.
