BIRMINGHAM, AL — Dr. Bruno Maton, a Fellow in the UAB Epilepsy Center in the Department of Neurology, has won the William H. Oldendorf Award for 2000 from the American Society of Neuroimaging (ASNI). The award honors outstanding research in neuroimaging by a medical student, resident or fellow.
According to Dr. Ruben Kuzniecky, Maton’s mentor and medical director of the UAB Epilepsy Center, Maton’s research focused on assessing the error rate and reproducibility of measurements in magnetic resonance spectroscopy of the hippocampus of the human brain. Maton’s research will improve the reliability of MR spectroscopy, giving physicians a more accurate diagnostic tool for neurologic diseases such as epilepsy.
The ASNI says the award is designed to encourage clinical research in neuroimaging by physicians enrolled in training programs in clinical neurology or neurosurgery.
ASNI is an international, professional organization representing neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists and other neuroscientists who are dedicated to the advancement of any technique used to image the nervous system.
