BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Gospel Choir will present its annual summer concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 25 in UAB's Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. Tickets are $5. Call 205-975-2787 or go to www.uab.edu/cas/music/.

The UAB Gospel Choir concert, directed by Kevin Turner, D.D., also will introduce the UAB Youth Workshop Gospel Choir.

The UAB Youth Gospel Choir workshop, for ages 12-18, will be held Thursday, July 22 through Saturday, July 24 in the UAB Hulsey Center for the Arts, 950 13th St. South. The fee is $20. The workshop choir will be limited to 120 voices (40 voices per section) and will be closed once the roster is full. The registration fee covers sessions to include introduction to music theory, a dance team workshop, a mime clinic, a clinic for lead singers and a lecture, "Why Should I Go to College?" Guests from the Missouri State Gospel Choir also will attend and support this event.

About the UAB Gospel Choir

The UAB Gospel Choir is a music-performance class open to all UAB students. One credit hour is earned for participating. The choir, begun in 1995, has released three CDs and a DVD, presents sold-out concerts at the Alys Stephens Center and tours annually. The choir will tour London and Holland in spring 2011.
