Board of Visitors
The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Board of Visitors, established in 1992, is comprised of a diverse group of leaders who participate in, support and promote the School of Nursing’s programs in public relations, development and fundraising. The BOV provides support and advocacy for activities, programs and projects to enhance the School’s visibility, reputation and financial success.
Specific goals of the Board are to:
- Serve as liaison between the School and the community for the purpose of promoting understanding, cooperation, and mutual respect.
- Advise about the various points of view of the different persons and groups relative to nursing education, and of nurses as members of the health care team.
- Assist the Dean and the faculty by becoming informed about baccalaureate and graduate nursing education in nursing and by making opportunities to share this information in a manner which
will best serve the School.
- Assist in enhancing the School’s environment and programs in order to promote recruitment of outstanding graduate and undergraduate students, and distinguished faculty.
- Assist in gaining financial support from private sources for scholarships for students, for faculty research, travel assistance, fund for visiting lectures, funds for further development of facilities, and funds necessary for promoting the development of the School.
- Assist in enhancing the School’s endowment for named faculty professorships or chairs in nursing positions from private sources.
- Encourage a deferred giving program.
- Advise the Dean and the Faculty concerning promoting the School’s image and message through various forms of the media.
Junior Board of Visitors
Established in 2006, The Junior Board of Visitors was created as a vehicle for a young generation of community leaders to make a contribution to nursing and nursing education through support of UAB’s School of Nursing. The Junior Board was set up in the same spirit as, with the aid of, and as an extension of the senior Board of Visitors. Two members of the senior Board of Visitors work closely as liaisons with the Junior Board of Visitors.
