Building Projects
  • Building Renovation and New Space Construction Program:
The UAB School of Nursing, built in 1968, has outgrown its space due to a doubling of enrollment in the past two and one half years.  Building renovations and new spaces are a necessity in order to house the increased enrollment, particularly in the area of pre-licensure students.  This project will address current and projected needs for: the addition of two new innovative nursing programs, the masters accelerated pathway and the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program, the development of a separate RN to BSN Pathway tailored to the needs of RN students and a clinical simulation initiative to enhance students’ clinical learning.

  • Reconstruction of The Learning Resource Center
A portion of the Learning Resource Center can become a conceptual model for an integrated health care system for older people.  The field of gerontology is soon to be flooded with “baby boomers” and along with it comes the huge increase in need for healthcare.  There is the need to invest in technology for this model to happen. The Learning Resource Center can be a place to teach the elderly to do at home care; to include teaching occupational/physical therapy and nursing skills. Also, this space is needed for faculty supervised student care giving to the elderly.
