We know there are a number of reasons students consider transferring from their current college or university. We also know you might have concerns about transferring current course work, meeting program prerequisites, managing timelines, and more. We want to help you through the process of applying to UAB School of Nursing as a transfer student.

Criteria for applying to the MSN program

If you are interested in applying to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program you should:
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in nursing, are a currently licensed registered nurses, and seek MSN preparation;
  • Admitted to the RN-BSN (RN Mobility) program and desire to continue to pursue a Master of Science degree after completing their BSN ;
  • Have a bachelor's degree or higher in a field other than nursing and are not registered nurses, to pursue a nursing degree.

Before applying to UAB

  • Student should send official or unofficial transcript (include school form) to sonstudaffrs@uab.edu.
  • Transcripts will be evaluated by School of Nursing (please allow a couple of weeks for processing)
  • School of Nursing will set-up meeting or phone conference with student
  • If admission criteria is met, student will apply to UAB for admission (GPA must be greater than 2.5 and the student should have two or fewer prerequisites* to complete) *Accepts prerequisites from regionally accredited schools

Non-Nursing transfers interested in an MSN

For students with a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS), or higher in a field other than nursing and looking for a career change to nursing, we have the perfect program for you. The Accelerated Master's in Nursing Pathway (AMNP) provides an option for students who have a bachelor's degree or higher in a field other than nursing and are not registered nurses, to pursue a nursing degree. We highly encourage you to attend one of our AMNP Information Sessions held every Wednesday, at noon, at the School of Nursing. A member of the Student Success Office will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. Check-in is in room NB 1002.
