UAB School of Nursing Alumni Awards

The UAB School of Nursing and the Nursing and Nurse Anesthesia Alumni Chapters seek to recognize outstanding graduates who are serving the nursing profession and community in meaningful ways. Awards will be presented at the 2017 Alumni Night on Thursday, September 14, 2017.


The nomination period has closed. We look forward to honoring our nominees and recipients!


Nomination Process

To nominate someone for an award, please submit all of the following information by July 10, 2017:
  • A completed nomination form
  • Nominee’s curriculum vitae or resume
  • One letter of support addressing why the nominee is deserving of the award. Specific examples and stories are encouraged.


Who Should Nominate?

Nominations are welcomed from anyone who has been inspired, touched, or shaped by our alumni—a fellow nurse, fellow classmate, grateful patient, family member, peer, student, or physician.

Recognition of Recipients

Recipients and all nominees will be honored and recognized at the UAB School of Nursing Alumni Night on September 14, 2017. Recipients will also be featured on the School’s website and other school media.


JoAnn Barnett Award for Compassionate Care

Recognizing alumni working in healthcare settings focusing on one or more of the following areas:
  • Direct care in hospitals, homes, clinics, etc.
  • Teaching patients, students, or nursing personnel (faculty members of Schools of Nursing are ineligible)
  • Leading others through administration, ensuring the implementation of policies and procedures positively impact quality patient care.


Young Alumni Merit Award

Recognizing alumni who have graduated within the last 10 years and work in a healthcare setting focusing on one or more of the following areas:
  • Direct care in hospitals, homes, clinics, etc.
  • Teaching patients, students, or nursing personnel
  • Leading others through administration, ensuring the implementation of policies and procedures positively impact quality patient care.


Marie L. O’Koren Alumni Award for Innovation

Recognizing alumni who have made innovative contributions to the field of nursing through one or more of the following areas:
  • Teaching in a faculty role at a nursing school.
  • Investing in the future of nursing through leadership and entrepreneurship.
  • Contributing to communities through service and outreach.
 

Rising Star in Nurse Anesthesia Award

Recognizing a nurse anesthesia graduate within the last five years who:
  • Demonstrates excellence as a clinical practitioner
  • Promotes quality health care and safety to patients and their families
  • Contributes to the nurse anesthesia profession through service and outreach


Career Achievement in Nurse Anesthesia Award

Recognizing a graduate who has made significant contributions to the nurse anesthesia profession and has been actively involved in improving the quality of patient care; worked toward furthering the nurse anesthesia profession
