Biography
Martha A. Dawson, RN, BSN, MSN, FACHE (RWJ Nurse Executive Alumni Fellow) completed her BSN and MSN from UAB. Her master's degree included a clinical focus in cardiovascular nursing and health systems administration. She completed a hospital administration residency at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, NC, and completed her DNP at Case Western Reserve University at the Rance Payne Bolton School. Her career trajectory expands clinical, research, consulting, academia and leadership in nursing and the health sciences. She served as the Vice President of Clinical Operations and Chief Nurse Executive at the University of Louisville Health System. Prior to this appointment, she was the Associate Chief Operating Officer at Duke University. While at Duke, she served also as the Director of Nursing Management Systems. She worked at Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville, AL and UAB Hospital, Birmingham, AL. She has served as an adjunct faculty and faculty Duke University , Indiana Wesleyan University, Univesity of Louisville, University of North Carolina, and on the Advisory Boards at the University of Kentucky and Spalding University.   • Administrative Focus - career mobility bariers in nursing and health care administration, leadership development/coaching, and clinical competancy of agencies nurses;
  • Chief Focus: stroke and cardiovascular prevention, health promotion, and health care disparities.
