Jeannie E. Horton serves as the School's Senior Director of Development. In this position, Jeannie will lead the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs in the cultivation of relationships with alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations to support the School’s tripartite mission of education, research and service. She has over 20 years of development experience and a record of energy, enthusiasm, innovate engagement strategies, and successful resource development.
Most recently, Jeannie served as the Director of Development for UAB’s Comprehensive Cancer Center. Prior to serving at the Comprehensive Cancer Center from 2009-2011, she worked for UAB’s Department of Surgery from 2005-2009. During this time, she successfully worked with donors and department leadership to establish 12 fully invested endowment funds- including five endowed chairs. From 2003-2005, she was Director of Development for both UAB’s Department of Surgery and Department of Ophthalmology. Prior to joining the University of Alabama School of Medicine, she managed the UAB’s Faculty and Staff Benevolent Fund. She began her fundraising career in 1990 at the United Way of Central Alabama, Inc. as a Campaign Associate and then assumed the position of Planned Giving Director before coming to UAB in February 2001.
Jeannie is a member of the National Association of Cancer Center Development Officers, the AAMC Group for Institutional Advancement, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She is a past member of the Association of Ophthalmology Development Officers, Alabama Planned Giving Counsel, Junior League of Birmingham, The Pell City Library Guild, and Rotary where she served in various leadership positions.
Jeannie is an Alabama native who calls the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay home. Currently, she resides in Indian Springs, Alabama with her husband and son. Jeannie received her B.S. in Human Environmental Sciences from the University of Alabama.
