Instructional Design Manager
Mr. Dan Murphy's is the Instructional Design Manager for Clinical Simulations and Technology in the School of Nursing with responsibilities including design, layout, maintenance, management, graphics, video (Pre and Post production), and support for Distance Accessible Courses. Mr. Murphy is working on his Masters of Education degree with a concentration in Instructional Technology, and holds a BS Occupational Education with a concentration in Corporate Training and Development.
As Instructional Design Manager, Mr. Murphy also serves as the School of Nursing’s Group Administrator for Blackboard Vista, SharePoint Portal Server, Mosby’s Nursing Skills System, and Helix Streaming Video Server Applications.
Mr. Murphy actively participates in development and training of faculty in the areas of instructional design and the use of specific instructional tools used in distance accessible courses, and is currently developing an online instructor program.
Mr. Murphy’s research interests include innovative teaching methodologies in Nursing education, and development of the SON Virtual Patient Project (Patent Pending). In addition, he provides academic and technical support for faculty grants including:
- A Culturally Competent Online NNP Program
- Alabama Geriatric Education Center
- Psychiatric NP for the Rural Deep South
- Leadership Education in Child Health Nursing (LECHN)
- Culturally Competent Online PCAPNP Program
In addition to his responsibilities in Nursing, he consults with other UAB professionals considering implementing distance accessible programs, and maintains membership in U.S. Distance Learning Association.
