International Visiting Scholars (IVS) Program

UAB School of Nursing is dedicated to expanding opportunities for nursing education, research and clinical practice through international collaborations and partnerships. The International Visiting Scholars (IVS) Program, offered through the Office of Clinical and Global Partnerships, allows select faculty, post-doctoral fellows and students to gain valuable short-term experiences in advancing nursing education, research, and practice.

Selected Visiting Scholars are involved in non-degree earning educational opportunities, intense training in research, and/or clinical practice observation. Visiting Scholar candidates are selected based on criteria that align with the UAB School of Nursing strategic priorities, availability of a faculty mentor and education degree (a minimum master’s level, preferably doctorate, in nursing is required). Eligible candidates are: faculty members, post-doctoral fellows, PhD students, nursing administrators or clinicians from a university, institution, or organization outside the U.S.A. Candidates should have specific objectives and deliverables as part of their application. A detailed work plan will be developed in conjunction with the mentor and other resource faculty, following acceptance into the program.

Visiting Scholar program fees are based on duration of stay and/or purpose of visit. Please click here for more information. Airfare, lodging, meals and health insurance are the responsibility of the Visiting Scholar. A U.S. visa – typically a “J-1” visa – is required. Please click here for information about requirements
