PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center Scholars

Faculty members and community partners who contribute to the work of the Collaborating Center can apply for recognition as PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center Scholars. The guidelines for the Scholar appointments are on the School of Nursing Intranet Site under “School-Wide Documents”.  The following faculty have received this recognition:

Jean B. Ivey, DSN, PNP-PC, BC

Dr. Jean Ivey was appointed as a WHOCC scholar in 2012.  She has contributed her skills to further global health both through the UAB School of Nursing and through personal service. She has worked closely with visiting scholars from various countries.

She has also served as faculty for the international travel away course in Honduras as often as it has been offered.

She is currently working on a collaboration project with the purpose of involving SON students with students and faculty from Norway. Personally, she has participated in several medical missions trips to Honduras and Ecuador, thus improving her Spanish language skills as well! Her particular interest in global health revolves around children and families. She presented on the topic of International and Interprofessional Nursing at the Pediatric Nursing conference in Boston in spring 2012.

Her current and past activities address the WHO Collaborating Center goals of strengthening nursing leadership capacity and enhancing child and family health through innovations in the delivery of nursing care. In addition the previous and current activities were interprofessional in nature and focused on collaboration that should strengthen global nursing and health care delivery in the future. We are happy to have her expertise and passion in the WHO Collaborating Center!
