Laura Debiasi has been a WHOCC Scholar since 2012. She has a longstanding interest in and commitment to global health issues. As a nursing student at UAB School of Nursing she was very involved anytime an international opportunity would arise; whether abroad or on campus. As an honors student in nursing she conducted her research project in Honduras evaluating the emotional well-being of girls living in an orphanage.
Once she became faculty at UAB SON, she continued her involvement with the International Nursing and Health Care Leadership and Management Program both as a host family and by working with the various students from around the world who would enroll in this summer course.
Her continuing interest in global work revolves around providing opportunities for global health involvement for current students at the School of Nursing. Whether this be through study abroad opportunities or through collaborating with local partners, her goal is to provide a global perspective on nursing to students in all programs at the SON. Her commitment to, energy and passion for global health issues is a tremendous asset to the UAB School of Nursing.
