PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center Scholars

Faculty members and community partners who contribute to the work of the Collaborating Center can apply for recognition as PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center Scholars. The guidelines for the Scholar appointments are on the School of Nursing Intranet Site under “School-Wide Documents”.  The following faculty have received this recognition:

Lygia Holcomb, DSN, C-ARNP

Dr. Holcomb has been a PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center Scholar since 2008.  She has been actively contributing to the goals of the WHOCC for many years.  She has mentored scholars from Honduras who attended the International Nursing Leadership Program at UAB SON.

She has also led and taught during several Study Abroad courses in Honduras over the last few years.  She was involved as co-investigator in two Sparkman Center for Global Health-funded grants which are nearing completion.  She assisted UAB SON Honors students in securing approval for conducting projects in Honduras and then oversaw their work.  Dr. Holcomb is also currently working with a Honduran university to add a Masters in Nursing Science to their curriculum, while at the same time writing a paper with our Honduran partners about international collaborations and how changing priorities affect collaborative efforts.
