The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Professor and Assistant Dean for Program Evaluation Anne Alexandrov, Ph.D., R.N., CCRN, FAAN, will receive the Flame of Excellence Award from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) at its 2013 National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition in Boston, May 18-23, 2013.

Walker Named Fulbright Senior Specialist

Deborah Kirk Walker, D.N.P., assistant professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing has been named a Fulbright Senior Specialist by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. 

This award will provide support for Walker to serve as a visiting professor for up to six weeks at a foreign nursing school, twice, over the next five years. Walker hopes to help the University of Malawi integrate oncology into their curriculum and provide support for oncology nursing education in Malawi.

Holland named to national board

Aimee Holland, N.P., instructor and coordinator of the women’s health nurse practitioner/adult nurse practitioner dual specialty program in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing has been selected to join the Board of Directors of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health. The association’s mission is to assure the provision of quality health care to women of all ages by nurse practitioners.

UAB nursing student selected for prestigious global health fellowship

Olivia Bahemuka, a third semester doctor of nursing practice student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing, has been accepted into the Afya Bora Fellowship in Global Health Leadership Program. Bahemuka, a native of Uganda, is one of 20 health professionals participating in this yearlong fellowship beginning in June 2013.
