The University of Alabama (UAB) School of Nursing, in partnership with UAB Hospital, will be hosting a series of activities in 2011 to highlight the Quality and Safety Education for Nursing (QSEN) initiative. The kick-off featured a workshop on February 23, 2011 with QSEN national leaders, Jean Johnson, PhD, FAAN and Gail Armstrong, ND, ACNS-BC, CNE. The QSEN initiative is being led by UAB School of Nursing Associate Professor, Patricia A. Patrician, PhD, RN, FAAN, a National QSEN Consultant and Senior Nurse Scholar of the VA Quality Scholars Program, and David James, RN, MSN, CCRN, CCNS, Advanced Nursing Coordinator for Nursing Education and Professional Development at the UAB Hospital Center for Nursing Excellence. Other partner hospitals include: Birmingham VA Medical Center, Cooper Green Mercy Hospital, and Children’s Hospital. The activities will teach participants the latest in patient safety and quality care and how to incorporate these strategies into formal education, staff development, and practice.
The QSEN activities include monthly QSEN Nursing Grand Rounds at UAB Medical Center and a QSEN Faculty Series at the UAB School of Nursing. The Nursing Grand Rounds will take place on the third Thursday of the month from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. in UAB Hospital’s West Pavilion Room E.
