Culturally Competent Distance Accessible Doctor of Nursing Practice with Advanced Diabetes Management
DHHS - Health Resources and Services Administration
It is well known that diabetes is an enormous public health problem in Alabama, even more so in rural underserved and minority communities. The aims of this project are to use distance accessible web-based technology to train DNP nurses with skills in culturally competent advanced management of diabetes. The program involves the creation of four new courses, two advanced management of diabetes theory and two practicum courses. Trainees will be recruited from minority and low-income disadvantaged backgrounds and from rural underserved areas. The program will develop linkages with community based health care agencies and other community facilities in order to encourage trainees to practice in these communities upon graduation.
