More than 250 “cowgirls and cowboys” felt right at “home on the range” at the fifth annual Make Another Scholarship Happen (M*A*S*H) gala in April. M*A*S*H co-chairs Wanda Simon and Pam Miller turned the Zamora Shrine Temple into an Old West frontier town, complete with a saloon that served as a makeshift courtroom where some of the guests were called on to “defend” themselves.
Elizabeth Wallace, chair of the School of Nursing’s Board of Visitors, co-chair Barrett MacKay, and other board members pitched in to make this year’s event a “Texas-sized” benefit that raised more than $90,000. During the 2006-07 academic year, about 70 nursing students received awards totaling more than $300,000 from the school’s scholarship program. The funds raised at the 2007 M*A*S*H will enable the Board of Visitors to increase the number of students receiving scholarships in coming years.
