Maintaining the Momentum: Summer 2005
Mable E. Lamb knew firsthand how difficult it is to concentrate on studying while holding one or more jobs to pay for college expenses.
After completing an RN diploma program, she worked as a nurse, teacher, administrator, and consultant and also served in the Alabama National Guard while she earned her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.
Dr. Lamb joined the School of Nursing faculty as director of continuing education in 1980. Throughout her distinguished career, she presented papers and submitted articles to professional journals. She also traveled extensively, graciously sharing her expertise with colleagues.
Before she passed away in July, Dr. Lamb planned ahead to make it easier for future nursing professionals to concentrate on their studies rather than finances: She named the School of Nursing as the beneficiary of her retirement fund and also left her home to the school. These planned estate gifts will endow the Mable E. Lamb Scholarship.
“Dr. Lamb’s generous contribution to the School of Nursing reflects her commitment to and her passion for her profession,” notes retired Dean Rachel Z. Booth, Ph.D. “Not only has she left her legacy for future generations, but her life’s work will continue to be a source of inspiration for our students, faculty, and alumni.”
